Lower Salmon River

So today Melissa and I ventured to the Lower Salmon River for a little hiking/swimming. My hiking book said the the river is "suitable for a chilly summer swim." Um...I think chilly is an understatement. I'm pretty sure the water was snow melt off from today - it was SO cold. Anyway upon arriving at the swimming hole Melissa saw a pop can in the depths of the river and dared me to put my goggles on and fish it out. You know me...can't pass up a good dare - so I went for it. Good news is I was able to retrieve the pop bottle, bad new is that I'm pretty sure I froze some serious brain cells in the process!!
Preparing for the big dive.

Going for the gold.

We've got a winner - mission accomplished.

You're a brave girl. I have a problem with really cold water--no guts. It looked beautiful. I drove over the pass yesterday and I am just thrilled every time I drive through those beautiful mountains.

Hhmmm, must run in the family. When we were at the coast last week I wandered alone down the beach wading in the water. The first three times, I didn't think I could stand it, but the thought of missing a good rock or shell for the kids kept sending me back in. After awhile it isn't cold any more is it? Ok, ok, so it's numbness, not warmth. But, either way it is fun, freezing water, huh? =)

Sounds like fun. Next time you're here in the summer, we're going to have to go to Bear Lake (by Montpelier, ID). We swam a little on Saturday, and it was quite nice. I don't think I could have done it if it was snow melt off cold. : )
